Workshop OPEN DAYS 2013 - Putting deprived areas back on track

In October 2013, regions and cities will be finalising preparations for the 2014-2020 cohesion policy, rural development and fisheries programmes. The OPEN DAYS 2013 will offer EU institutions, managing authorities and final beneficiaries a chance to exchange and network on new approaches even before the new operational programmes (OPs) are implemented in 2014.

Regions and cities will also be able to present the results of their 2007-2013 EU-funded programmes and projects, showcasing the impact these have on regional development, i.e. contributing to smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. More information on the OPEN DAYS 2013

The DG Regio from the European Commission organises a workshop on the 8th of October 2013 (11.15 – 13.00). The purpose of the workshop is to demonstrate how the new EU urban instruments for the period 2014-20 can be used to help bring deprived areas back on track. This will be approached directly by a presentation of, among other things, Community-Led Local Development (CLLD) and indirectly by examples of urban interventions in deprived areas where tools similar to CLLD have been used.  The focus will be on public participation and the integrated approach in examples from primarily Denmark, Germany and Hungary. We will also discuss how these experiences can be transferred to other countries. The workshop could be of interest to:

  • EU, national, regional and local policy/decision makers
  • Authorities managing and evaluating cohesion policy programmes and projects
  • Other stakeholders: private companies, financial institutions, European and national associations
  • Academics, students and researchers
