City practice of the month: energy efficiency project in Budapest

The commercial and general natural gas supplier, the FŐGÁZ Zrt., started a building energy business action in the summer of 2012. It includes heating modernization and heating equipment’s renewal of family-flat condominiums. The 84% of the non-panel condominiums use natural gas heating system in Hungary, but the 75% of the heating equipments have not been modernized, their mean ages are 19-20 years, they are outdated, wasteful and unsafe. The investments of FŐGÁZ can be the solution for the problem of the family-flat condominiums, since significant energy savings help increasing energy efficiency. Although this energy project works on the local level (currently in Budapest) and has had only a few implemented projects yet, the popularization of the business model can renew several heating systems of family-flat condominiums similarly in the future.
